Grading at NGHS
At North Gwinnett High School, our vision is to be a global leader in learning. This vision extends to our grading practices, ultimately focused on promoting each student’s individual ability to understand, track, and navigate their learning.
We want to deliver grading practices that inform students and parents of their specific learning objectives, ultimately leading to skills necessary to be successful and independent life-long learners.
Our vision and goal of our grading work at North Gwinnett High School:
A student’s grade is the most accurate reflection of their mastery of the skills and content of the course.
To meet this goal, we believe the following:
We are working to create a system where:
- A student’s grade is the most accurate reflection of their mastery of the standards
- We better articulate to students and families what the student knows and does not know.
- Our processes and beliefs follow GCPS Policy.
- This system promotes the belief of learning over time
- Multiple opportunities to demonstrate mastery.
- Gradebook is set up for better communication of content strengths and deficits.
- Assessments become more meaningful and strategic to allow students to demonstrate mastery—exposure to all level of mastery allows all students to clearly understand the learning objectives and benchmarks.
- A grade reflects the most recent and most evident levels of mastery.
